RICHARDSON, TX (03.30.18) - The UT Dallas softball team extended its winning streak to five games Friday afternoon with a doubleheader of sweep of LeTourneau, 4-2 and 7-4, to close out a three-game American Southwest Conference series.
GAME 1 - UTD 4, LETU 2
Allie Stephens (4-4) scattered four hits with three strikeouts as the Comets scored a single run in each of the first four innings en route to a 4-2 win over LeTourneau to open Friday's twin bill.
The Comets opened the scoring in the 1st when
Melissa Livermore singled, stole second and came home on an RBI double by
Ravin Wilson. However, LETU countered in the top of the 2nd with a two-run homer by Bailey Woodard to take a 2-1 lead.
UTD knotted the game in the bottom of the 2nd with a bases-loaded walk drawn by
Elizabeth Brann an regained the lead, 3-2, in the 3rd on a RBI double by
Hope Griffith, scoring pinch runner Kenneday Zimmerman. The Comets added a final run in the 4th when Wilson collected her second triple of the season and then scored on an
Amber Williams single to left.
The Comets managed 10 hits in the victory with
Stefanie Polderman going 2-for-3 and Livermore and Wilson each finishing 2-for-4.
GAME 2 - UTD 7, LETU 5
The Comets opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the 1st and never trailed as they earned a 7-5 win over LeTourneau to close out the set with the Yellow Jackets.
UTD plated its three runs in the 1st on just one hit as Yellow Jacket starter Amber Fillbrandt walked the first two batters she faced. Williams knocked the first run of the game with a single to right, scoring Livermore, and UTD added two more runs on a sac fly by
Samantha Halliburton, combined with a Yellow Jacket error.
Leading 3-1 in the 3rd, the Comets tacked on two more runs on a single by
Emily Schroeder, but LETU answered with a pair of runs in the top of the 4th and another in the 5th to draw within a single run, 5-4. In the bottom of the 5th, the Comets were able to pull away thanks to a two-run single up the middle by Livermore.
Karen Crane (9-4) earned the win after giving up two earned runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings of work. Stephens tossed the final 2.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits, recording her second save of the season. Williams was 3-for-4 while Polderman finished 2-for-4 with two run scored. Livermore was 1-for-2 with a school-record-tying four stolen bases.

The Comets (14-1, 10-5 ASC) return to action next weekend with a three-game series at Hardin-Simmons.
