RICHARDSON, TX (03.09.18) - The UT Dallas baseball team belted nine hits but struggled bringing runners home as the Comets dropped an 8-1 decision to Texas Lutheran Friday afternoon to open a non-conference three-game series.
The Comets (9-6) and Bulldogs (13-3) will wrap up the weekend set with a 12 p.m. doubleheader at the UTD Baseball Field.
TLU opened the scoring in the top of the 2nd with a two-run homer by Chad Davis and added another run later in the frame on a Comet error for a 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs added three more runs in the 5th and a single run each in the 7th and 8th to grab an 8-0 advantage.
The Comets avoided the shutout with a single run in the bottom of the 8th when
Connor Scruggs laced a double down the left field line, bringing home
Rodney Corbin.
Jamie Andriot (3-2) was handed his second loss of the season after giving up two earned runs in 3.0 innings of work. Andriot struck out three and did not issue a walk. Four Comets combined to toss the final six frames, allowing five earned runs on six hits and three walks.
Scruggs finished 3-for-4 with an RBI as the only UTD hit with a multi-hit performance.
