Melissa Livermore Breaks Runs Record As Comets Sweep Belhaven

JACKSON, MS (04.10.18) - Junior Melissa Livermore etched her name in the UT Dallas softball record again on Tuesday as she became the program's all-time runs scored leader in a Comets' sweep of Belhaven to open a three-game American Southwest Conference series.

The Comets (19-11, 15-5 ASC) collected their third straight shutout to open the series with a 7-0 victory and then rallied for a 5-3 win the second game of the day. The two teams will play a 3 p.m. single game Wednesday to close the set.

With one out in the top of the 7th of game two, Livermore touched home plate for the 131st time in her career, breaking the previous mark of 130, set by former Comet Amber Griffin (2005-08). Livermore already holds the UTD stolen base record and is on pace to set the team record for career hits early in her senior season.

UTD opened the scoring in the top of the 3rd with a two-run triple by Ravin Wilson and tacked on a third run in the 4th thanks to a bases-loaded walk drawn by Melissa Livermore.

The Comets tacked onn two more runs in teh 5th with an RBI double by Amber Williams and a run-scoring single by Stefanie Polderman to take a 5-0 lead. Kynsee Gesch completed the scoring with a two-run double in the 7th.

The Comets rallied from an early 1-0 deficit thanks to a four-run 6th inning as UTD closed out Tuesday's doubleheader with an 8-3 win over the Blazers.

Down 1-0 in the 5th, Gesch knotted the game with her third RBI of the afternoon with a sac fly, scoring Kenneday Zimmerman. However, the host Blazers answered in the bottom of the frame with a pair of runs to regain a 3-1 advantage.

UTD knotted the game with two outs in the top of the 6th with a two-run single to right by Lauryn Manning. The Comets then took their first lead of the contest one batter later with a two-run home run by Polderman, her first of the season.
