ABILENE, TX (04.20.18) - The UT Dallas softball team has now recorded its sixth 20-win campaign in seven seasons after a doubleheader sweep of McMurry Friday afternoon, 7-3 and 10-2, to open a three-game American Southwest Conference series with the War Hawks.
The Comets (21-15, 17-9 ASC) will wrap up its final road series of the season Saturday with a 12 p.m. single game with McMurry.
GAME 1 - UTD 7, McM 3
The Comets hit the 20-win mark for the third straight year as they opened Friday's twin bill with a 7-3 victory over McMurry.
Melissa Livermore finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run scored and her NCAA Division III-leading 46th stolen base of the season as UTD snapped a four-game losing streak.
Karen Crane earned the victory, scattering six hits with one walk in a complete-game performance. Crane struck out one strikeout and gave up just two earned runs, both in the bottom of the 7th.
UTD opened the scoring without recording an out as Livermore led off the contest with a single, stole second and came home on an RBI single by
Ravin Wilson. The Comets added two runs in the 2nd on a single to center by Livermore, scoring
Emily Schroeder and
Stefanie Polderman. After giving a run back in the bottom of the 4th, UTD tacked on three runs in the top of the 4th to secure a 6-1 advantage. In the 4th, the Comet used an RBI double by
Kendra Litchfield, scoring Polderman, before adding a two-run single by
Elizabeth Brann, scoring both Litchfield and Livermore. The Comets added a final run in the 6th when Wilson came home on a passed ball.
The Comets collected 14 hits off of McMurry starter Kamwren Jackson, with Schroeder and Litchfield going 2-for-3 and Wilson and Polderman were 2-for-4.
GAME 2 - UTD 10, McM 2 (6 inn.)
Crane picked up her second her second win of the day as she tossed all 6.0 innings in the Comets' 10-2, run-rule victory over McMurry to close Friday's doubleheader.
The Comets opened the scoring with a three-run single by
Hope Griffith in the 2nd inning, who later came home on a Livermore ground out, as UTD snagged a 4-0 lead and never looked back. Polderman added an RBI single in the 3rd, followed by a two-run single by Litchfield to spark the Comets to a 7-0 cushion.
After giving two runs back to McMurry in the bottom of the 3rd, the Comets added a sacrifice fly by Brann in the 4th and a steal of home by Polderman in the 6th.
Crane (13-7) struck out three while giving up two earned runs on eight hits in her second win of the day. Polderman was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI while Brann and Schroeder each finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
