PINEVILLE, LA (09.20.18) - UT Dallas freshman
Sofia Munoz gave the Comets a hat trick performance for the second consecutive outing as she scored three times in UTD's 5-0 road win over Louisiana College in American Southwest Conference play.
The Comets have extended the best start in program history to 8-0 and are now 2-0 against ASC teams so far this fall. Munoz tallied two goals in the opening half as UTD grabbed a 3-0 lead at the break and added her third tally five minutes into the second period. Seniors
Jessica Rusk and
Melissa Fulfer, who recorded a hat trick Tuesday's in the Comets' 8-0 win at Austin College, also scored in the victory.
UTD finished the night with 22 shots, eight on goal, with Fulfer, Munoz and Rusk each contributing four shots.
Monica Dallacasa played a clean opening half without save before giving way to
Morgan Sherman, who made one save in the second half, as the Comets recorded their seventh shutout of the season already.
The Comets return to action Saturday with a 12 p.m. game at Belhaven in Jackson, Miss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rusk opened the scoring in the 9th minute as she tapped in a cross from the right by teammate Mandy Avalos.
- Munoz got her first goal of the night in the 12th minute on a volley from a cross by Jacquie Kaufman.
- The freshman Munoz added a second goal in the 28th minute with a chip over LC keeper Haley Clark, thanks to an assist from Rusk.
- Munoz' 44th hat trick in program history was completed in the 50th minute when she found the back of the net off a rebounded shot by Keely Fillman.
- Fulfer added her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 66th minute from inside the six-yard box after a cross from Rain Lybbert.
