Kathy Joseph advances to the singles finals while Joseph and teammate Friday
Frida Muedsam made it to the finals in the doubles draw as the UT Dallas women's tennis returned to action for the ITA Regionals, hosted by Trinity University.
Joseph rolled through two early-round opponents in the singles draw with straight-set wins to advance to the quarterfinals, where she had to face Muedsam. Joseph earned a 7-5, 6-1, win over Mudsam to qualify for the round of four and knocked off Trinity's Caroline Kutach to advance to the finals. Joseph's run for a title fell short with a 6-3, 6-2, loss to East Texas Baptist's Elisa Kendall.
Muedsam opened the singles draw with a straight-set win, but needed to earn a 15-13 win in the third set against Austin College's Diana Carvajalino to advance to the quarterfinals and face Joseph.
As a duo, Joseph and Muedsam stormed through the doubles draw, picking up wins over two squads from host Trinity in the process. The tandem downed TU's Andrea DeLeon/Paulina Garcia in the quarterfinals, 8-3, and routed Tigers Megan Flores/Caroine Kutach, 8-1, in the semis. However, the team fell shy of the doubles crown, dropping a straight-set match to Trinity's Mary Kaffen/Zoe Kaffen, 7-6 (9), 6-2.
Stephanie Joseph, younger sister of Kathy, opened play with a a 6-0, 7-5, win over Southwestern's Cecile Wilde before falling in the round of 16 against Trinity's Flores.
Sumvruta Iyengar fell in her opening match in the main draw, but rallied to win the consolation draw with four straight victories. Iyengar did not give up a single game through her first three matches in the consolation bracket before downing Trinity's DeLeon, 7-6 (3), 6-2, in the finals.
Svaksha Iyengar, younger sister of Sumvruta, dropped her first match of the event as well and would pick up a consolation win over LeTourneau's Gracie Favela, 6-2, 6-4, before falling to DeLeon in the quarterfinals.

Sumvruta Iyengar led off doubles play with an 8-6 win over Kelsey Doege/Elizabeth Lopez of Hardin-Simmons) fefore falling to the Kaffen sisters of Trinity, 8-1, in the quarterfinals.
