Comets Drain 17 Treys In 113-73 Blow Out of East Texas Baptist

RICHARDSON, TX (01.10.19) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team knocked down a school-record 17 three-pointers as the Comets rolled to a 113-73 victory over East Texas Baptist in the team's American Southwest Conference East Division opener Thursday night.

The Comets (now 11-3, 5-2 ASC) finished the night 17-for-33 (51.5%) from three-point range as they collected their second 40-point victory of the season. Seven different played pitched in from beyond the arc with Jalen Weber leading the way with a 5-for-9 performance from long distance, with all five makes coming before the break. Curtis Allen and Xavier Ferrell each added four treys as the Comets snapped the old school record of 16 long shots set in three previous games.

UTD opened the game firing on all cylinders as the Comets drained 12-of-18 three-pointers in the first half en route to a 64-33 advantage over the Tigers at the break. The Comets dominated the boards in the opening half as well, out-rebounding ETBU, 26-7, and holding the Tigers to just one offensive board.

The Comets largest lead of the night came with 6:01 to play when UTD extended it advantage to 45 points, 103-58, after a Ferrell fast-break lay up. The Comets would tie the school record for three-pointers with 3:17 on a Kelden Pruitt long shot while the record-breaker came with just 56 seconds on the clock with a Peyton Chun trey from the corner.

Dimitrius Underwood led four Comets in double-figure scoring as closed out the win with 22 points on 7-for-14 accuracy from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 performance from the foul line. Weber finished with 19 points while Allen and Ferrell each added 16 points. Michael Forster led the Comets with a game-high seven rebounds while the trio of Allen, Underwood and Weber each dished out four assists.

The Comets close the night shooting 53.5 percent (38-of-71) from the field and hit 20-of-22 shots (90.9%). UTD out-rebounded the Tigers, 39-25, over the full 40 minutes and finished with 32 assists, two shy of the program record.

The previous UTD three-point mark of 16 was set on Jan. 18, 2010, against Ozarks and was later tied in 2014 and 2016.

The Comets will continue ASC East play Saturday when they host reigning divisional champion LeTourneau. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.
