Comet League of Legends Team Ranked No. 8 Nationally

RICHARDSON, TX (01.17.19) - The first-ever collegiate national ranking has the UT Dallas League of Legends program ranked No. 8 in the nation, released Wednesday afternoon.

The first poll of its kind in college esports, ESPN gathered responses from a group of more than 40 collegiate coaches in the U.S. and Canada to craft the rankings, which will be updated every other week and released on Wednesdays. League of Legends developer Riot Games assisted in identifying seasoned coaches in the College League of Legends scene and provided data to help inform the preseason rankings for those coaches.

More than 300 collegiate teams are competing in the College League of Legends regular season, which began earlier this month. The Comets are in the South Conference and will begin play Saturday, Jan. 26, against Shenandoah University. UTD is the top nationally ranked team from the South, joined by No. 10 George Mason, No. 23 Texas and No. 25 Virginia Tech.

Reigning national champion UC Irvine sits atop the inaugural Top 25 with Maryville second, Columbia College third, Harrisburg fourth and Western Ontario rounding out the top five. 

Conference playoffs will take place in March with each conference champion an four at-large team advancing to the College League of Legends Championships at the LCS Arena in Los Angeles, Calif., May 23-26.
