No. 21 Comets Complete Season Sweep of LC With 77-40 Home Win

RICHARDSON, TX (01.31.19) - The No. 21-ranked UT Dallas women's basketball team rolled of its seventh consecutive victory Thursday night as the Comets rolled to another double-digit win, downing Louisiana College, 77-40, in American Southwest Conference East Division play.

The Comets improved to 16-4 overall and remain atop the ASC East standings with a 10-2 league record. UTD will look for an eighth straight win Saturday afternoon when the Comets host Belhaven in another ASC East home game. Tip-off is 1 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center.

UTD held the visiting Wildcats scoreless for more than seven minutes as the Comets jumped out to a 15-0 lead after earning a 78-57 win over LC last Saturday in Pineville, La. The Comets took a 17-10 lead into the second quarter and widened the lead to 21 points by the half, doubling up LC, 42-21, at the break.

After a defensive third frame where the Comets outscored LC, 13-11, the UTD bench took over the in fourth, outpacing the Wildcats, 22-8, to secure the squad's sixth straight win of more than 20 points. The blowout marked the fourth time this season the have downed an opponent by more than 30 points.

Junior Victoria Pena, the current ASC East Player of the Week, finished with a game-high 24 points, hitting 8-of-20 shots from the field and 5-of-12 from three-point range. Raenett Hughes added 12 points along with a team-best six rebounds. The Comets ended the night shooting just 42.6 percent (29-of-68) as a team, making 9-of-27 three-pointers (33.3%), and hit 10-of-19 free throws (52.6%).
