ABILENE, TX (10.10.19) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team scored seven goals for the second time this season with the Comets tallying five times in the second half en route to a 7-1 win at McMurry Thursday night in American Southwest Conference play
Junior
Merek Byckovski scored twice in the first half and five other Comets scored in the second period as UTD snapped a three-game winless streak in the rout of the host WarHawks. The Comets will look to continue their momentum Saturday night when they visit ASC-leading Hardin-Simmons. Game time is 7:30 p.m. in Abilene.
The Comets (8-3-2, 2-1-2 ASC) finished the win taking 17 shots, including a season-high 14 shots on frame, while limiting host McMurry (5-6, 2-3 ASC) to just two shots on the night. The WarHawks managed just one shot on goal in the 90 minutes, that finding the back of the net early in the second half after Byckovski staked the Comets a 2-0 lead.
Byckovski opened the scoring in the 10th minute with his first tally of the night. Teammate
Gage Ott delivered a perfect free kick into the box, allowing Byckovski to score on a header to give the Comets a quick 1-0 advantage. The junior's second goal of the night came in the 18th minute, also via a header. After an
Adrian Vasquez corner kick,
Hunter Williams headed the ball in front of the net to allow Byckovski his second score of the game and third of the season.
The WarHawks cut the lead in half in the 47th minute before UTD answered with five late goals to pull away for the victory.
Jovi Munoz gave the Comets back a two-goal lead in the 59th minute as he found himself wide open in front of the net after a
Hunter Williams cross from the right. Ott would collect a second assist in the 71st minute when he found the head of teammate
Mason Anderson for the Comets fourth goal of the night.
The Comets extended their lead to 5-1 in the 78th minute on another double-assisted goal off a Vasquez corner kick. Vasquez' corner from the right sailed past the WarHawk goal, but was sent back into the box by a header by
Brian Rahmoune.
Brad Rivenes finished the goal with a header into the net. Less than two minutes later, Rahmoune got a goal of his own, using a header off of a
Alfredo Kaegi corner kick. Kaegi capped the scoring in the 81st minute with an unassisted goal on a quick free kick from 30 yards out.
