Late Surge Pushes Comets Past No. 15 Hardin-Simmons, 2-1

ABILENE, TX (10.12.19) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team scored twice in the final 16 minutes to rally for a 2-1 road win over No. 15-ranked Hardin-Simmons Saturday night in a key American Southwest Conference road game for the Comets.

With Saturday's win over ASC-leading Hardin-Simmons, the Comets improved to 9-3-2 overall and just two points out of the league lead, currently holding a 3-1-2 ASC record with three weeks left in the regular season.

The host Cowboys (now 11-2, 4-2 ASC) opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with a tally by Caziah Yame and would hold a 1-0 lead at the break. UTD had plenty of scoring opportunities on the night, closing the contest with 24 shots, but could not find the net until a hand ball in the box by HSU late in the second half.

Senior Hunter Williams stepped up the spot and delivered the equalizer in the 75th minute. Alfredo Kaegi would then provid the game-winner for the Comets in the 80th minute as he knifed through the HSU defense and beat Cowboy keeper Trent Ivy one-on-one.

Of the Comets' 24 shots, only seven were on frame, while Williams led the squad with five shots of his own. Gage Ott added four shots while Kaegi and Brad Rivenes each took three shots.

UTD returns home Thursday to open a four-game home stand against East Texas Baptist. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field.
