RICHARDSON, TX (10.17.19) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team secured a 10-win campaign for the 10th consecutive season thanks to a 3-0 home win over East Texas Baptist Thursday night in American Southwest Conference play.
The Comets used their sixth shutout of the fall to improve to 10-3-2 overall and hold steady in fifth place in the ASC standings with a 4-1-2 league record. UTD will look for a fourth consecutive victory Saturday night when the Comets host LeTourneau in another ASC contest. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field.
For the eighth time this season, UTD would lead an opponent 1-0 at the break thanks to
Adrian Vasquez' first career tally with 18 seconds left in the opening half. Vasquez found the back of the net in the 45th minute after cleaning up an entry pass from teammate
Oliver Hamby.
The Comets added to their lead in the 54th minute when
Jovi Munoz scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season with a breakaway down the middle, thanks to a pass from the right by
Hunter Williams.
Micah Ardila capped the scoring in the 81st minute from more than 30 yards with an assist by
Brian Rahmoune.
UTD closed the victory with 15 shots, six on frame, with Munoz and
Alfredo Kaegi each taking three shots. The Comets held ETBU (4-9, 3-4 ASC) to just seven shots, five on goal, with UTD keeper
John Nicknish collecting five saves in a full 90-minute performance.
