RICHARDSON, TX (10.19.19) - Alfredo Kaegi and
Jovi Munoz each scored twice as the UT Dallas men's soccer team blanked LeTourneau Saturday night, 4-0, in American Southwest Conference play.
The Comets improved to 11-3-2 overall with Saturday's victory and remain in the hunt for the ASC regular-season title, now 5-1-2 in league play this fall. UTD currently sits in fifth place in the ASC standings with 17 points heading into the final two weeks of the regular season, but are just two points shy of the league lead with three games left on the slate.
Munoz opened the scoring in the 35th minute as he drew his own penalty kick, being taken down by a pair of LETU defenders just inside the box. For the ninth time this season, the Comets would lead an opponent, 1-0, at halftime. Munoz added his team-leading 10th goal of the season in the second half while Kaegi tallied twice after the break as the duo accounted for all the scoring in the contest.
Kaegi doubled the Comets' lead in the 49th minute as dribbled around most tof the YellowJacket backfield and then drilled a shot past the LETU keeper. Munoz pushed the lead to 3-0 in the 85th minute, thanks to a cross from Kaegi. Kaegi's second goal of the night, and eighth of the year, came in the 86th minute, assisted by
Micah Ardila.
The Comets out-shot LETU, 26-2, finishing with a season-high 16 shots on frame. Ardila led the charge with six shots of his own, five on target, while Kaegi and Munoz each took four shots. The YellowJackets (now 5-8-2, 3-5 ASC) took just two shots, both on goal, with UTD keeper
John Nicknish making two saves in the shutout.
UTD returns to action Thursday, Nov. 24, when the Comets host Belhaven in another ASC contest. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field.
