AUSTIN, TX (10.19.19) - The UT Dallas volleyball team secured its sixth straight American Southwest Conference East Division crown Saturday, picking up two 3-0 victories to close out the second ASC Crossover Tournament of the fall. This weekend's event was hosted by Concordia Texas.
The Comets (now 18-4, 11-1 ASC) bounced back from their first league loss of the season to quickly sweep both host Concordia Texas and Howard Payne on Saturday. UTD handled the host Tornados, 25-21, 25-13, 25-17, and then cruised by HPU, 25-14, 25-16, 25-13.
UTD has now won 12 ASC East titles since 2006 and will host the ASC Tournament, Nov. 7-9, at the UTD Activity Center. The Comets will host the ASC Tournament for the seventh time in program history.
The Comets will take a short break from ASC play Tuesday night as they visit Austin College. Match time is 7 p.m. in Sherman.
MATCH 1 - UTD 3, Concordia Texas
The Comets hit .378 as a team as they officially clinched the ASC East crown with a 25-21, 25-13, 25-17, win over ASC Crossover host Concordia Texas.
Jillian Via sparked the Comets with 14 kills, along with 10 digs and an ace, in the quick sweep of the Tornados.
Allison Owen and
Gabi Sommerfield each added 10 kills in the victory.
MATCH 2 - UTD 3, Howard Payne 0
Via and Owen shared the team lead with eight kills each as the Comets wrapped up the weekend with an efficient 25-14, 25-16, 25-13, win over Howard Payne in the squad's second match of the day.
The Comets hit .305 as a team with 13 players seeing the court in the quick sweep of HPU. Sommerfield added seven kills while
Alyssa Porter pitched in six kills along with three blocks.
