Comet Men Force Tie With Concordia Texas,1-1

RICHARDSON, TX (10.05.10) - Holding the lead most of the second half, the UT Dallas men's soccer team had to settle for 1-1 draw with Concordia Texas Saturday night in American Southwest Conference play.

After a scoreless opening period, the Comets got on the scoreboard in the 61st minute on a header by Brian Rahmoune off a free kick from the left by teammate Gage Ott. The tally was Rahmoune's first of his career in his two seasons with the squad while Ott picked up his first assist of the season.

UTD (now 7-3-2, 1-1-2 ASC) maintained its lead until the 88th minute when the Comets where called for a hand ball in the penalty area after a Tornado corner kick. That penalty kick resulted in a Marco Vazquez goal and would send the Comets to overtime for the third straight contest and fifth time in 12 games this season.

The Comets dominated possession in both overtime periods, outshooting CTX, 3-1, in the extra 20 minutes, but could not muster a game-winning goal. UTD is now 0-3-2 in its five overtime contests this fall.

UTD finished the night with 14 shots, four on frame, compared to 10 shots by the visiting Tornados (4-5-2, 2-1-1 ASC). Brad Rivenes led the squad with four shots while Rahmoune took three shots. CTX had just three shots on goal in the contest with UTD keeper John Nicknish making two saves.

The Comets will look to rebound and get back in the win column Thursday as they visit McMurry. Game time is 7:30 p.m. in Abilene.
