Comets Blank Ozarks, Will Host ASC Tournament Next Weekend

CLARKSVILLE, AR (11.01.19) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team locked up at least a share of the American Southwest Conference regular-season title after a 1-0 road win over Ozarks Friday afternoon.

With their seventh straight victory, the Comets closed out the regular season with a 14-3-2 overall record and earned the top seed in next week's ASC Tournament after closing league play with an 8-1-2 mark. UTD will host an ASC opening round game Tuesday night at 8 p.m., against an opponent yet to be determined. The Comets will then host the ASC semifinals and title match, Nov. 8 & 10, regardless of Tuesday's result.

The Comets posted the only goal of the afternoon in the first minute of place as freshman Micah Ardila found the back of the net just 55 seconds into the contest after a failed clearance by the Ozarks defense on a UTD throw-in into the box. The tally was Ardila's third of the season.

The UTD defense then had an answer for each and every Eagle attack, holding its postseason-bound host to 12 shots in the contest, with only four attempts on target. Comet keeper John Nicknish posted his eighth shutout of the fall, collecting four saves.

UTD closed the win with 10 shots, seven on frame, with Alfredo Kaegi leading the way with three shots of his own.
