NEWPORT NEWS, VA (11.30.19) - After nearly a two-week hiatus, the UT Dallas men's basketball team returned to action Saturday afternoon with a 90-62 loss to No. 11-ranked Christopher Newport to open up the 2019 Hampton Marina Classic.

Hans Burwitz led all scorers with 22 points while fellow junior
Jalen Weber added 18 points as the Comets dropped to 2-2 on the young season. UTD returns to the court Sunday at 1 p.m. (Central) to close the event against Wilmington College.
The Comets got off to a slow start against their much-anticipated matchup with their nationally ranked host, shooting just 30.3 percent (10-of-33) from the field overall and going 0-for-8 from three-point range in the opening half. UTD warmed up in the second half, shooting 48.3 percent (14-of-29) over th final 20 minutes with Burwitz leading the charge with a 2-for-4 performance from beyond the arc.
UTD snagged an early 12-10 lead on the Captains after a
Simeon Soname lay up with 13:20 left in the first half, but the lead was short-lived as CNU responded with a 13-0 run over the next four minutes. The Captains (6-1) would secure a 39-23 lead at the break. The Comets drew within 11 points early in the second half.
The Comets closed the game shooting 38.7 percent (24-of-62) overall, hitting just 3-of-16 three-pointers (18.8%) and were 64.7 percent (11-of-17) shooters from the free-throw line. Burwitz and
Michael Forster both led UTD with seven rebounds while Weber dished out six assists.
