Comets Headed to ASC Title Match After 3-1 Win Over Concordia

RICHARDSON, TX (11.08.19) - The regionally ranked UT Dallas volleyball program will play in the championship match of the American Southwest Conference Tournament for the sixth consecutive season Saturday afternoon after the Comets handled Concordia Texas, 3-1, Friday night in the event's semifinals.

ASC TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

The Comets (now 23-4) will next play at 1 p.m. Saturday against Mary Hardin-Baylor for the sixth league title in program history. UTD and the Cru will be squaring off in the ASC championship match for the sixth straight season with the Comets claiming three of those titles (2015, 2016, 2017). The Comets also collected hardware after the 2008 and 2009 campaigns.

Senior Jillian Via led the Comets with a match-high 17 kills in the four-set victory, adding 14 digs and a ace. Catherine Croft  had 15 kills and a pair of blocks while Allison Owen finished with 12 kills and seven digs.

After cruising to a 25-16 win in the opening set, thanks to a .333 team hitting percentage, the Comets outlasted CTX, 26-24, to grab a 2-0 match lead. However, the Tornados (23-7) bounced back with a 25-19 win in the third set before the Comets would close the match with a dominant 25-18 victory in the fourth stanza. UTD hit .471 as a team, collecting 17 kills to just one error, in the fourth set.

Setters Caroline Shecterle and Sydney Fitt finished with 26 and 21 assists, respectively, while the Comets hit .253 as a team for the match. UTD had seven blocks and seven aces.
