BELTON, TX (02.15.19) - After just one warm-up game this past week, the UT Dallas softball team kicked off American Southwest Conference play Friday afternoon with a doubleheader at Mary Hardin-Baylor, dropping both games to the Cru, 5-1 and 13-7.
The Comets fell to 1-2 after the two losses and will close out the three-game series at UMHB Saturday with a 12 p.m. at Dee Dillon Field.
GAME 1 - UMHB 5, UTD 1
The host Cru plated six runs in the bottom of the 6th to break open a 1-1 contest en route to a 5-1 win over the Comets to open Friday's twin bill.
Down 1-0 in the 3rd, the Comets evened the game as
Melissa Livermore reach with a two-out infield single, stole both second and third and then came home on an RBI single to left by
Hope Griffith.
UMHB would then score four runs on just two hits in the 6th to pull away for the win.
GAME 2 - UMHB 13, UTD 7
The Comets pounded out 13 hits but could not keep up the UMHB offense as UTD dropped a 13-7 decision in the second game of Friday's doubleheader.
UTD opened the scoring in the top of the first when
Kendra Litchfield singled in Livermore, but the Cru answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame and four more in the 3rd to take a 7-1 lead.
The Comets got two runs back in the 4th on back-to-back RBI extra-base hits by
Ravin Wilson and
Amy Jensen and then added three runs in the 6th as Wilson and
Emily Schroeder each picked up RBI hits to draw within a single run, 7-6.
However, UMHB plated six runs in the bottom of the 6th on just three hits, including a grand slam by Hannah Wolfe, to keep the Comets at bay. UTD scored a final run in the top of the 7th with an RBI single up the middle by
Amber Williams.
