BELTON, TX (02.16.19) - Junior
Kendra Litchfield wrapped up an impressive opening week to the 2019 Saturday afternoon with a two-run double in the top of the 7th to lift the UT Dallas softball team to a 5-4 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor in American Southwest Conference play.
Tied 3-3 heading to the final frame, the Comets loaded the bases with a pair of singles and a walk. With two outs, Litchfield would record her eighth and ninth RBI in UTD's four games this week to push the Comets to a 5-3 advantage. UMHB would load the bases with no outs in the bottom of the inning, but Comet reliever
Lexi White took the circle and gave up just a sacrfiice fly before forcing a pair of groundouts.
Litchfield finished teh game 1-for-4, also adding an RBI groundout in the 4th.
Amy Jensen went 2-for-2 with her first home run of the season while
Melissa Livermore was 2-for-4 with her seventh stolen base in four games this week.
The host Cru (2-5, 2-1 ASC) opening the scoring with a single run in the bottom of the 1st, but UTD answered in the third with Jensen's one-out long ball to left field. The Comets then added two runs in the 4th on Litchfield's groundout followed by a Nichole Peters' RBI double, scoring
Amber Williams. UMHB tallied two runs in the 5th to knot teh game, 3-3.
The Comets (2-2, 1-2 ASC) return to action next weekend with a three-game ASCÂ home series with Sul Ross State. The game times for the set have been adjusted due to the fact that UTD will host the ASC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament as well. UTD and Sul Ross State will now play a 1 p.m. single game Friday before a 11 a.m. doubleheader Saturday.
