SEGUIN, TX (02.22.19) - The UT Dallas baseball team kicked off a three-game weekend series at No. 3-ranked Texas Lutheran with an 8-2 win over the 2019 NCAA Division III national runner-up.
Freshman right-hander
Brett Bihm (1-0) picked up his first collegiate win as he spun 6.2 strong innings to push the Comets (3-5) to the victory. The UTD bats gave Bihm all the offense he needed in the top of the 2nd as the Comets posted seven runs to grab a big early cushion.
The Comets and host Bulldogs (6-1) will complete their three-game non-conference series Saturday with a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
UTD scored its seven second-innings on just five hits as the Comets set the tone. The Comets used three-straight RBI singles by
Peyton Becker, Aaaron Fanning and
Austin Adams to get the ball rolling against TLU.Two batters later,Â
Matt Mikusek lifted the Comets to a 4-0 lead with a bases-loaded infield single.
Thomas Craig then capped the seven-run frame with a bases-clearing double left.
Craig added another RBI in the 4th with a one-out solo home run to left center, his team-leading fourth of the season, to lift the Comets to an 8-0 advantage. TLU plated a single run in the 5th and 7th.
