RICHARDSON, TX (03.01.19) - After a tough 6-2 loss to Hardin-Simmons to open its weekend three-game home series with Hardin-Simmons, the UT Dallas baseball recorded its second shutout in three games Friday afternoon with a 3-0 win over the Cowboys in the second game of the day.
The Comets (6-7, 1-1 ASC) will close out the three-game set with HSU on Saturday with a single game at 11 a.m. The game was originally scheduled for 12 p.m., but moved up one hour to avoid expected weather.
GAME 1 - HSU 6, UTD 2
The Comets scored two runs on four hits in the bottom of the 1st inning, but managed just three more hits the rest of the contest as they fell to Hardin-Simmons, 6-2, to open the weekend series.
Trailing 2-2 heading into their first at bat, the Comets got on the board with an RBI single to left by
Patch Healy, scoring
Matt Mikusek. UTD then knotted the game, 2-2, two batters later with an RBI single to center by
Austin Blanford, scoring Healy.
The Cowboys would get both runs back, however, in the top of the 2nd and tack on a single run each in the 4th and 5th innings.
Healy led the UTD offense going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
GAME 2 - UTD 3, HSU 0
UTD picked up its second shutout of the week in Friday's second game as the Comets earned a 3-0 win over the Cowboys to close day one of the series.
Starter
Blake Divalerio (1-1) earned the victory after tossing the first 6.2 innings of the shutout, strikeout out four Cowboys. Divalerio scattered five hits while walking three.
Logan McPherson picked up the save, taking over with two outs in the 7th and strikeout out for HSU hitters over 2.1 innings of work.
Thomas Craig got the Comets on the board with a two-out RBI double in the 3rd, scoring
Jacob Perry. Craig later came on in the inning on an RBI single by Healy. UTD added an insurance run in the 8th when Blanford tripled in Craig with two outs.
