RICHARDSON, TX (03.02.19) - The UT Dallas softball team set a school record with six home runs as the Comets run-ruled Belhaven, 16-6, in five innings Saturday afternoon to wrap up a three-game American Southwest Conference series between the two teams.
The Comets (5-4, 4-4 ASC) scored 15 of 16 runs via the long ball as they belted an ASC-record-tying two grand slams in the lopsided victory. UTD took the weekend set with the Blazers, 2-1, after splitting Friday's doubleheader.
Down 3-0 coming to bat for the first time, UTD used a pair of 1st inning home runs to grab a 7-3 lead.
Ravin Wilson gave the Comets the lead with one swing of the bat with a one-out grand slam, lifting UTD to a 4-3 advantage. Three batters later
Jessica Vlasek blasted her first home run of the game, a three-run long ball to push the UTD lead to 7-3.
The Comets added a solo homer from
Nicole Peters to lead off the bottom of the 2nd to extend their lead to 8-3. After a scoreless 3rd, UTD picked up a two-run homer by
Kendra Litchfield with one out in the 4th, giving the Comets a 10-3 cushion.
The Blazers plated three runs in the top of the 5th before UTD ended the series with a six-run inning of their own. Vlasek led off the Comets' 5th with a solo homer, her second of the game, before
Nicole Peters gave UTD a 12-6 lead with a single up the middle, scoring
Amber Williams. Two batters later with the bases loaded,
Amy Jensen sent the two teams out of the cold weather with a grand slam.
UTD's previous program record for home runs was four, set against in Hardin-Simmons in 2010.
The Comets amassed 14 hits of of four Belhaven pitchers with Peters and Wilson each going 3-for-3.
