GAME 1 (THURSDAY) - LC 8, UTD 0 (5 inn.)
The Comets managed just two hits as they dropped the first game of the three-game series at Louisiana College, 8-0, in five innings Thursday afternoon.
LC pitcher Sarah Gartman retired the first 10 batters she faced before Comet
Hope Griffith broke up the perfect game with one out in the 4th with an infield single.
Jessica Vlasek was to get a second hit for the Comets with two outs in the 5th with a single down the right field line. However, UTD was unable to get a runner past second base down the stretch and suffered its first shutout loss of the season.
GAME 2 (THURSDAY) - LC 9, UTD 5
The Lady Cats would jump out to a 5-0 lead before UTD would score its first runs of the twin bill as the Comets dropped the second game of the series, 9-5.
Down 5-0 in the 4th, the Comets finally broke into the run colum with a double by
Hope Griffith, scoring lead-off hitter
Melissa Livermore. Griffith later scored in the inning on a wild pitch and
Ravin Wilson added an RBI single to right, scoring
Nicole Peters, to trim the Lady Cat lead to 5-3.
LC answered with two runs in the bottom of the 4th to return to a four-run lead, however, before the Comets could add more offense with a two-run top of the 6th. UTD took advantage of a one-out error in the 6th to allow
Amy Jensen to come home for the Comets' first run of the frame. Wilson would later come home on an
Elizabeth Brann single up the middle.
Livermore finished the game 3-for-3 with a pair of steals, giving her an ASC-best 14 swipes on the season. Wilson was 1-for-2Â with three steals.
GAME 3 (FRIDAY) - LC 8, UTD 5
The Comets plated three runs in the top of the 7th but was too little, too late as UTD suffered an 8-5 loss to Louisiana College to wrap up the three-game series.
Down 8-2 in their final at bat, the Comets would eventually bring the tying run to the plate after scoring three runs on five hits in the 7th. After a lead-off double by Brann to start the frame, Livermore would pick up her second hit of the afternoon with a triple to left, scoring Brann. Griffith quickly added an RBI single to center to bring home Livermore and then scored herself on an
Amber Williams single to left. However, UTD would leave runners on first and second when the game came to an end.
The host Lady Cats opened the scoring with a run in the 1st, but UTD quickly knotted the game with an RBI single by Brann in the 2nd, scoring
Jessica Vlasek. But, LC would get the run back in the bottom of the inning and two more runs in the 4th to regain the lead, 4-1. The Comets got another run in the 5th on a Griffith RBI ground out before the Lady Cats plated one more in the bottom of the 5th and three final runs in the 6th.
Vlasek ended the game 3-for-4 while Brann and Livermore head had multi-hit performances.
