SHERMAN, TX (04.10.19) - The UT Dallas baseball team extended its current winning streak to a season-high five games Wednesday night as the Comets earned a 10-3 road win over Austin College in non-conference play.
The Comets (14-16) pounded out 15 hits while scoring in all but two innings as the Comets continue its hot streak. UTD will look to get to .500 for the first time this season as the Comets visit McMurry for a three-game American Southwest Conference road series, starting Friday.
UTD opened the scoring with a one-out balk by 'Roo starter Jake Thomas in the top of the 1st frame, allowing
Jacob Perry to come home. The Comets then added three runs in the 2nd thanks to a RBI fielder's choice by
Austin Adams followed by a two-run double by
Thomas Craig later in the inning.
Leading 4-2 in the 4th, the Comets then scored in five straight frames to pull away from host Austin College (7-19). Perry used a two-out single to right in the 4th to push the UTD lead to three runs before
Aaron Fanning added a two-out single to right in the 5th to lift the Comets to a 6-2 cushion.
Craig picked up his third RBI of the game, scoring Perry, with a two-out double in the 6th. Craig later scored on the only 'Roo error of the game on a
Ryan Burciaga ground ball later in the frame. UTD would tack on an RBI single by Adams in the 7th and a two-out RBI double by
Zach Jordan in the 8th.
Comet freshman starter
Orion Drymond (1-4) picked up his first win collegiate win, giving up just two earned run on five hits in 5.0 innings on the mound. Drymond struck out two 'Roo batters while issuing three walks.
Jordan Box,
Josiah Rohne and
Carter Cochrane combined for 4.0 relief innings, allowing a combined one unearned run on just two hits.
Craig and
Dylan Palmer each finished the game 3-for-5 from the plate while Fanning was 2-for-4 and Jordan was 2-for-5.Â
