TYLER, TX (04.26.19) - The UT Dallas softball team opened a three-game series at NCAA Division II provisional member UT Tyler Friday with an 11-0 road loss.

Despite the loss, however, the Comets (16-18) clinched a spot in the postseason for a school-record fourth consecutive season thanks to results from around the American Southwest Conference.

UTD can now finish no lower than eighth in the ASC and will be making its sixth appearance to the league's postseason event in the past seven years and ninth time in program history. The 2019 ASC Championship Tournament is slated for May 2-4 on the campus of league regular-season champion East Texas Baptist in Marshall.

The Comets managed just two hits in Friday's loss to UT Tyler, both coming in the 2nd inning, for just the squad's third shutout loss of the season. The host Patriots (34-4) scored one run in the bottom of the 1st and five runs each in the 2nd and 5th to secure the run-rule victory.

The two teams will wrap up the regular season Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at the UT Tyler Softball Field.
