RICHARDSON, TX (04.05.19) - The UT Dallas softball team opened its three-game American Southwest Conference series with Ozarks on Friday a pair of lop-sided home victories over the Eagles while senior outfielder added another career accolade to her already lengthy resume.
The Comets (now 13-13, 9-10 ASC) led off the set with Ozarks with an 8-0, five-inning victory and then added an a 7-1 win over the Eagles in Friday's late game. The two teams will return to the field at 2 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting, for the series finale.
A three-time All-American for the Comets, Livermore went 5-for-6 over the twin bill to give her 259 hits over her illustrious career with the Comets, matching the league's all-time mark set by for UT Tyler All-American Joey Cronin (2010-13). With each at bat in Saturday's finale, Livermore will be attempt to become the ASC's hit leader outright. She is already the ASC and NCAA Division III record holder in steals, now with 191 career stolen bases.
GAME 1 - UTD 8, UO 0 (5 inn.)
The Comets plated four runs in the bottom of the 4th, including a three-run long ball from
Jessica Vlasek, en route to an 8-0 win over Ozarks to open the three-game series.
Livermore led off UTD's half of the 1st with a walk and stole both second and third before scoring the first run of the contest on a Vlasek groundout. The Comets added three runs in the 2nd on three hits and three Ozarks errors before closing the door with their four-run 4th. UTD got a run each in the 2nd on a sacrifice fly by
Amy Jensen and a sacrifice bunt by
Elizabeth Brann before Livermore lifted UTD to a 4-0 cushion with an RBI infield single, scoring
Nicole Peters. Livermore would later steal second base in the inning to give her three swipes for the game.
After a scoreless 3rd, Peters led off the Comets' 4th with a double to right. Jensen walked and Livermore used another infield single to load the bases with just one out.
Hope Griffith plated Peters with a sac fly to left before Vlasek's third homer of the season.
BriAnna Young (5-4) allowed just two hits while issuing a lone walk in a complete-game performance for the Comets in the circle. Livermore and Peters were each 2-for-2 with two runs scored while Vlasek was 1-for-3 with four RBI.
GAME 2 - UTD 7, UO 1
The Comets matched a season high with 17 hits as they wrapped the doubleheader against Ozarks with a 7-1 victory. UTD used another big inning, plating four runs in the 2nd, to secure the squad's second win of the day.
UTD picked up four hits in the bottom of the 1st but scored one just run when Griffith came home on a Vlasek single up the middle. The Comets then exploded for four runs in the 2nd on seven hits, sending all nine batters to the plate in the frame. UTD got two runs on a Griffith single to right and two more on another Vlasek single up the middle.
The Eagles (8-21, 5-18 ASC) got their only run of the day in the top of the 3rd on a Brittney Dean single down the right-field line, scoring Riki Haase. But, the Comets got the run back in the bottom of the inning on a Livermore RBI infield single, scoring Jensen. UTD capped the scoring with a solo home run by Brann, her first of the season, with two outs in the 5th.
Livermore added a triple later in the 5th to tie the ASC career hit record and cap a 3-for-4 performance, adding one more stolen base.
Ravin Wilson was also 3-for-4 while Vlasek was 2-for-3 with three more RBI.
Brann (1-0) earned her first win of the season, giving up just one run on four hits in 4.0 innings of work.
Nicole Vasicek added two scoreless frames and
Blaire Evans tossed a scoreless 7th to lock down the victory.
