SAN ANTONIO, TX (08.30.19) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 overtime road loss at No. 9-ranked Trinity Friday in the 2019 season opener for both programs.
The Comets (1-0) struck first with a first-half goal by
Mason Anderson, but the host Tigers (1-0) tallied the equalizer in the 66th minute and ended the game just 3:01 into the first overtime frame. UTD returns to action Sunday with a 2 p.m. road game at Austin College in Sherman.
UTD finished the night with nine shots, but only one shot on goal, that coming off the right foot of Anderson in the 22nd minute. Anderson was able to chest down an pass from teammate
Jovi Munoz just outside the six-yard box, turned and snuck a ball past the diving Trinity keeper to lift the Comets to the early 1-0 victory.
The Tigers would not answered until a Jacob Hallenberger goal nearing the midway point of the second half. Trinity closed the comeback with a goal by Andrea Cosispoti in the 94th minute.
Trinity took 19 shots in the contest, 11 of which were on goal. UTD keeper
John Nicknish finished with nine saves.
Jordan Henderson and
Oliver Hamby led the Comets with two shots.
