MEMPHIS, TN (09.13.19) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team scored four goals in the opening half en route 7-1 victory over host Rhodes to open the Volgas Memorial Tournament Friday night.
After their fourth consecutive victory, the Comets improved to 4-1 on the season and return the pitch Sunday at noon against Hendrix. Hendrix opened the weekend with 3-2 loss to Austin College in Friday's opening contest.
The Comets opened the scoring in the 9th minute as
Mason Anderson took advantage of a loose after a
Jesse Ardila corner kick to push UTD to an early 1-0 lead. Less than two minutes later,
Micah Ardila doubled the Comets' lead to 2-0.
Brad Rivenes and
Oliver Hamby each added a goal later in the opening half before the Comets cruised into the locker room with a 4-1 advantage.
In the 48th minute,
Merek Byckovski extended the Comets' lead to 5-1 before
Jovi Munoz added to the scoring with his team-leading fourth goal of the fall in the 59th minute.
Jordan Henderson capped the scoring in the 89th minute.
The Comets finished the victory with 18 shots, 11 on goal, while host Rhodes took 10 shots, only two on frame. Hamby and
Donny Smith each took a team-best three shots.
