RICHARDSON, TX (09.22.19) - The No. 24-ranked UT Dallas men's soccer team had its six-game winning streak come to an abrupt end Sunday afternoon after a buzzer-beating overtime loss to Emory in non-conference play.
The Comets (now 6-2) got an early goal from
Jesse Ardila in the opening half to snag a 1-0 lead over the visiting Eagles at the break, but Emory got the equalizer with just under 20 minutes left to play in regulation. Emory would find the back of the net with two seconds left in the first overtime frame to complete the comeback.
The UTD defense limited Emory to just three shots on goal in the entire match, with two of the three shots finding net. The Comets would close the loss with 13 shots, compared to 12 by Emory, finishing with just shots on frame.
Hunter Williams led the squad with three shots whiel Ardila and brother Micah Ardilla each took two shots.
In the 14th minute, Ardila drove down the right side of the field and found teammate
Alfredo Kaegi near the corner. Kaegi then connected with a streaking Ardila in front of the net for the first goal of the afternoon. In the 72 minute, Eagle reserve Madison Conduah scored on a breakaway after a pass from teammate Ethan Cohen to knot the game, 1-1. Conduah also had the game-winner in the 100th minute as Alejandro Gomez found him in the middle of the UTD defense for a redirect two seconds before the two teams would head to a potential second extra period.
The Comets have now completed non-conference play and will open the American Southwest Conference slate Thursday with a road game at Howard Payne. Game time is 4:30 p.m. in Brownwood.
