ALPINE, TX (02.28.19) - An early red card against UTD's
Jovi Munoz forced the Comets to play short-handed for much of the game, and UTD had to settle for a 0-0 double overtime tie with Sul Ross State in American Southwest Conference play Saturday afternoon.
The red card was issued against Munoz just 24:55 into a scoreless match with the Lobos (2-4-1, 0-1-1 ASC) and the Comets (7-2-1, 1-0-1) spent the remaining 65 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods with only nine players on the pitch. The Comets did manage to out-shoot SRSU, 8-5, but could not get a ball past Lobo goalkeeper Frank Rodriguez. UTD keeper
John Nicknish was equal to the task, stopping four shots on goal.
UTD will try to regroup next weekend at home against Mary Hardin-Baylor (4-2-1) and Concordia Texas (3-4-1) as the ASC race doesn't get any easier.
