ALPINE, TX (01.23.20) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped Thursday night with a 68-65 road loss at West Division-leading Sul Ross State in American Southwest Conference crossover play.
Junior
Michael Forster scored a career-high 29 points while draining seven three-pointers, the most by a Comet this season, but UTD could not overcome 17 turnovers and getting just two points from its bench in the loss to the host Lobos.
Leading 32-30 at the break, the Comets (now 12-5, 6-2 ASC) allowed SRSU to grab the lead early in the second half after back-to-back three-pointers by Lobos Tristen Licon and Cailen Bond. However, UTD would regain a lead by the first media timeout and widened its margin to as many as six points, 45-39 after a Forster trey with 11:47 left to play.
The Lobos (now 9-8, 6-2 ASC) answered with a 9-0 run of their own to take back the lead. UTD forced a tie twice down the stretch but could not regain the lead.
Forster finished the loss 11-for-15 from the field, hitting 7-of-10 three-pointers, while adding six rebounds and a pair of steals.
Hans Burwitz added 21 points as the only other Comet in double figures, adding a game-high 12 rebounds for his ASC-leading ninth 'double-double' of the season.
The Comets shot 46.2 percent (24-of-52) from the floor on the night, connecting on just 8-of-23 three-pointers (34.8%) as a team, while hitting 9-of-16 (56.3%) free throws.
UTD will continue its three-game road trip Saturday afternoon with a 3 p.m. road game at Howard Payne in Brownwood.
