SAN ANTONIO, TX (02.16.20) - The UT Dallas softball team wrapped up its four-game weekend road trip Sunday afternoon with a pair of non-conference losses at Trinity, 6-2 and 11-6.
The Comets (now 2-6) will now open American Southwest Conference play this weekend with a three-game road series at Hardin-Simmons in Abilene. The two teams will open the set with a single game at 6 p.m. Friday before playing a 12 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
GAME 1 - Trinity 6, UTD 2
The Comets fell behind early and could not keep up as they dropped a 6-2 decision to Trinity to open Sunday's twin bill.
The host Tigers plated a run in the bottom of the 1st and would secure a 3-0 after five innings before UTD would get a single run in the 6th with a bases-loaded walk drawn by
Avery Markley. Trinity answered with two runs in the bottom of the 6th before the Comets could add a second run on an RBI double by
Megan Todd in the top of the 7th.
The Comets managed nine hits off of a pair of TU pitchers, but again struggled with leaving runners on base, stranding 11.
Nicole Peters,
Jessica Vlasek and
Ashley Ambrosy each went 2-for-4.
GAME 2 - Trinity 11, UTD 6
UTD held a 4-2 lead after three frames before the Tigers took the lead with a three-run 4th and added six more runs in the 5th to pull away for an 11-6 win in the nightcap.
Todd opened the scoring with an RBI on a fielder's choice ground ball in the top of the 1st, allowing
Matee Simon to score. The Tigers responded with a run in the bottom of the frame, but the Comets regained the lead with two scores in the 2nd on a Markley long ball, her second of the season. UTD then added another run in the 3rd on a Vlasek single to left followed by a Trinity error, allowing Ambrosy to score.
However, the Tigers plated three runs on just two hits in the 4th to take a 5-4 lead, taking advantage of three walks and a hit batter. Trinity then scored six runs on six hits and three more walks in the 5th.Â
The Comets picked up a run on a Simon sac fly in the 6th and another on a
Emily Schroeder double in the 7th.
Five Comets had multi-hit performances as UTD finished with 11 hits in the losing effort. Markley was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI while Peters, Ambrosy, Vlasek and Schroeder were each 2-for-4.
