RICHARDSON, TX (02.22.20) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team celebrated Senior Day Saturday afternoon with 100-73 home win over McMurry in American Southwest Conference crossover play.
The Comets wrapped up the regular season with a 20-5 overall record and won a second straight ASC East title with a 14-2 league mark. UTD will open the 2020 ASC Tournament at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Alpine when the Comets face Hardin-Simmons in the event's opening round.
Senior
Jalen Weber poured in 29 points on 12-of-20 shooting with seven assists to pace five Comets in double figures. Hans Burwiitz added 16 points,
Michael Forster and
Kolton Pruitt each had 15 points, and
Kelden Pruitt completed the quintet with 10 points. Burwitz also collected his ASC-leading 16th 'double-double' of the season with a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Comets shot a blazing 63.3 percent from the field in the opening half, hitting 19-of-30 shots with five three-pointers. UTD cooled off slightly after the break, shooting just 52.6 percent (20-of-38), to end the game at a 57.4 percent clip, the second-highest by the squad this season. The Comets were 39-of-68 from the floor in the second 100-point game of the season, making 11 three-pointers, and were 11-of-16 from the free-throw line.
Leading 51-38 at the break, the Comets allowed McMurry (now 7-18, 4-12 ASC) to draw back within 10 points at 63-53, thanks to a 10-0 War Hawk run, capped at the 13:32 mark of the second half. However, UTD responded with a 15-0 run later in the half to pull away for its eighth consecutive victory.
