BROWNWOOD, TX (03.07.20) - The UT Dallas softball team wrapped up a three-game American Southwest Conference series at Howard Payne Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 road win over the host Lady Jackets.
The Comets improved to 5-12 with Saturday's victory and currently hold a 3-6 mark in ASC play. UTD will take off 10 days before returning to the diamond, Mar. 17-18, when the Comets host Sul Ross State for a three-game conference set.
Down 2-0 late in the contest, the Comets plated four runs in the top of the 4th and added an insurance run in the 7th to avoid the series sweep at HPU.
Jessica Vlasek would open up UTD's half of the 4th with a double to right center and later score on a double by
Avery Markley. Markley and
Gabi Langille would both then come home on a Lady Jacket error on a
Matee Simon ground ball, giving the Comets a 3-2 lead. Simon later scored on a
Nicole Peters single to left with two outs in the 4th. UTD added a final run in the 7th when
Megan Todd singled in
Ashley Ambrosy with two outs.
Devyn Yanello earned the win in the circle, pitching 4.0 innings in relief of Comet starter
Nicole Vasicek. Yanello limited HPU to just two hits in her relief appearance, striking out one.
Hope Quinones picked up her first collegiate save, tossed a one-hit 7th. The Comets finished with seven hits off with Ambrosy leading the charge with a 2-for-4 performance.
