Comets Suffer Overtime Loss at Mary Hardin-Baylor, 4-3

BELTON, TX (10.02.21) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team was handed its first ASC loss of the season Saturday night as the Comets dropped a 4-3 overtime decision at Mary Hardin-Baylor.

The Comets (6-3-2, 2-1-1 ASC) held a 3-2 lead on host UMHB late in regulation before the Cru knotted the game with 60 seconds left to play to force overtime. UMHB then ended the game just 40 seconds into the first extra period off a long throw in.

The Cru opened the scoring in the third minute to grab an early 1-0 lead before Kane Kidwell tied the contest in the 13th minute with a tally, his third of the fall, assisted by Adrian Vasquez. The Comets then grabbed their first lead of the night in the 26th minute thanks to Riley O'Donnell's team-leading ninth goal of the season, assisted by Alan Beaney, lifting UTD to a 2-1 halftime advantage.

UMHB again tied the game in the 58th minute on a penalty kick before Benny Lube gave the Comets a 3-2 cushion in the 64th with his secod goal of the season, assisted by O'Donnell.

The Comets managed just four shots on goal, all four on frame. Joe Ruedi had the lone UTD shot that did not find the back of the net. UTD keeper Trey Nickel made a career-high six saves as the Cru finished the night with 12 shots, 10 on goal.

UTD will return home Thursday night as the Comets host Hardin-Simmons in another key ASC match. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field.
