RICHARDSON, TX (10.07.21) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team held leads in both halves but could not secure the ASC victory as the Comets battled with rival Hardin-Simmons to a 2-2 draw Thursday night at home.
The Comets (6-3-3, 2-1-2 ASC) out-shot HSU, 21-12, on the night but both squads finished with eight shots on goal as the long-time foes continue to battle for ASC top seeds. UTD will look to snap a three-game winless streak Saturday night as the Comets host McMurry at 7:30 p.m.
Riley O'Donnell opened the scoring in the 37th minute with his ASC-leading 10th goal of the fall as he beat the HSU keeper from the left side after a pass from teammate
Joe Ruedi. However, the Cowboys (4-4-1, 3-0-1 ASC) answered in the 38th minute with a header by Nick Tudgay off a J.J. Sissen throw in.
Oliver Hamby netted his first goal of the season early in the second half as he collected a failed clearance by a Cowboy defender and laced in the unassisted tally from the right side in the 48th minute. But, again, the Cowboys answered on a set piece as Makenson Cadet scored in the 51st minute after another HSU throw in.
Brandon Bohn led the Comets with fie shots on the night while
Kane Kidwell,
Benny Lube and
Nahome Abraham each took three shots. UTD keeper
Trey Nickel matched his career best with six saves.
