JACKSON, MS (10.23.21) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team wrapped up the road portion of its regular season schedule Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 victory at Belhaven in ASC play.
The Comets (10-3-3, 6-1-2 ASC) secured its 21st 10-win season over the 24-year history of the program and has moved into third place in the ASC standings with just one game left in the regular season. Already securing its spot in the playoff for the 12th consecutive season, UTD has officially locked up a first-round home game in next month's ASC Championship Tournament. The Comets will conclude the regular season Friday, Oct. 29, with a 7:30 p.m. home game against Ozarks as the UTD men celebrate Senior Night against the Eagles.
After a scoreless opening half,
Oliver Hamby punched in the first goal of the game for the Comets in the 57th minute as he cleaned up a failed clearance by the Blazer defense after a
Benny Lube entry pass. The tally was Hamby's second of the season and first game-winner since his freshman season.
Riley O'Donnell then lifted the Comets to a two-goal lead with his ASC-leading 12th score of the season, assisted
Kane Kidwell in the 62nd minute.
The Comets wrapped up the shutout with a 14-11 shot advantage over host Belhaven (5-8-1, 3-6 ASC), while collecting nine shots on goal. Hamby, O'Donnell and Lube each finished with three shots. Comet keeper
Trey Nickel made three saves in his fifth shutout of the fall.
