AUSTIN, TX (12.18.21) - The No. 17-ranked UT Dallas women's basketball team clamped down defensively as the Comets held off Concordia Texas for a 60-48 ASC road win Saturday afternoon.
The Comets (6-2, 5-1 ASC) used a dominant second period (17-4) to pull away from the host Tornados and never looked back as they wrapped up their two-game central Texas road swing. The Comets will not return to action until Dec. 29-30 when they host the UTD Classic, welcoming four teams to campus for the two-day event.
After holding a slim one-point lead after the first 10 minutes of play, the Comets limited CTX (3-6, 1-3 ASC) to just a single field goal in the second period en route to a 33-19 halftime advantage. The Tornados then shot just 7-of-26 (26.9%) from the floor in the second half as UTD continued to dominate the game defensively.
The Comets snagged their first double-digit lead of the afternoon at the 7:30 mark of the second quarter when
Kaylee Boykin pushed UTD to a 25-15 cushion with a jumper. The Comets would grab its largest lead of the day near the midpoint of the third when a
Jordan Rudd free throw pushed the UTD lead to 46-24.
The Tornados attempted to claw back in the fourth quarter, but would get no closer than nine points.
Boykin led the way with a game-high 14 points while
McKenzie Howard and
Anna Jefferson-Polk each finished with 12 points. Jefferson-Polk also added five rebounds and five assists, hitting 2-of-2 three-pointers. Rudd shared the team lead with five boards.
