PINEVILLE, LA (03.10.21) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team had it season come to an end Wednesday with a 79-72 loss at Louisiana College in the quarterfinals of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament.
The Comets, who had to win their regular-season finale to qualify for a conference-record 18th straight league tournament, closed the 2020-21 campaign with a 9-5 overall record, placing third in the ASC East Division with a 7-4 league mark.
Senior guard
Dimitrius Underwood recorded his program-record 36th 'double-double' in the loss, wrapping up his final appearance with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds while adding six assists, also a game-high. Senior
Kelden Pruitt led the Comets with 20 points and also finished with a 'double-double', adding 12 boards. Senior
Michael Forster added 14 points and freshman
Kameron Pruitt finished with 10 points to round out the Comets in double figures.
After a back-and-forth start to the contest, the host Wildcats began to pull away late in the opening half and would secure a nine-point lead, 40-31, at the half. LC would extend its lead to as many as 22 points, 69-47, with 5:37 left to play before the Comets made one final attempt to extend the season. UTD rolled off 11 straight points to cut the Wildcat lead in half by the 2:55 mark but struggled to keep the game within single digits down the stretch. The Comets got four points late by freshman
Dylan Miles to trim the final deficit to seven points.
Underwood finished his career ranked second all-time at UTD in scoring with 1,678 points, less than 100 points shy of the program record of 1,771 points by former Comet
Kyle Schleigh (2010-14). Underwood also finished his career ranked second all-time in rebounds (814), second in steals (188) and fourth in assists (317).
Kelden Pruitt closed his career ranked second all-time at UTD with 86 blocked shots.
