GEORGETOWN, TX (03.02.21) - Jacob Perry used a two-run triple to ignite a three-run 7th inning as the UT Dallas baseball team rallied for a 6-5 non-conference road win over Southwestern University Tuesday night.
Down 4-3 heading into the 7th,
Jonas Roberts opened the Comets' top half of the frame by reaching on a Southwestern error.
Chandler Boyd then gave UTD runners on first and second after getting plunked by a pitch, forcing a Pirate pitching change. Perry then laced a triple to right field, bringing home both teammates to give the Comets (3-1) their first lead of the night. Perry would later score
Ramon Garza sacrifice fly to lift UTD to a 6-4 advantage.
The host Pirates (now 0-5) plated four runs in the bottom of the 1st to grab a quick lead.
Nick Balley got a run back in the top of the 2nd on an RBI single to left, scoring
Marcos Villegas; and
Zac Vorst cut the deficit in half in the 3rd with an RBI infield single, plating Garza. Balley would trim the Southwestern lead to a single run in the 6th with a sacrifice bunt, scoring Vorst. Southwestern added a single run the 8th but went down in order in the 9th as
Orion Drymond locked down his second save of the season.
The Comets sent seven pitchers to the mound with reliever
Austin Blanford (1-0) picking up the victory after tossing two perfect innings with a strikeout, setting up the comeback. Vorst was the only Comet to return a multi-hit game, going 2-for-5. Through four games, he is now hitting a blistering .533 for the season.
UTD returns to action this weekend to host Sul Ross State in a three-game American Southwest Conference series. The two teams will play a 12 p.m. doubleheader Friday before a 12 p.m. single game Saturday.Â
