Miscues Lead to Tough Saturday Doubleheader for Comets

RICHARDSON, TX (03.20.21) - Eight errors over the two games led the UT Dallas softball team to a pair of losses Saturday afternoon as the Comets wrapped up a three-game American Southwest Conference weekend home series with Concordia Texas.

The Comets (now 1-13, 1-8 ASC) opened the day with a 10-3 loss to CTX before falling in the series finale, 10-4. UTD will return to action next weekend with a three-game ASC set at Mary Hardin-Baylor, starting with a 6 p.m. single game Friday night.

GAME 1 - CTX 10, UTD 3
The Comets committed four errors in the top of the 6th inning which led to a 10-3 loss to Concordia Texas to open Saturday's doubleheader.

The visiting Tornados scored single runs in each of the first three frames to take an early 3-1 lead and then had a pair of three-run innings to pull away. The Comets got a run in the bottom of the 1st on a Nicole Peters double to left center, scoring Jordan Evans, but would find themselves down 9-1 in the bottom of the 6th. UTD got a single run in the 6th on a Megan Todd homer, her second of the spring, and added a 7th inning score on an Avery Markley RBI single to right, scoring Ashley Ambrosy.

GAME 2 - CTX 10, UTD 4
The Tornados used a six-run 2nd inning to jump ahead early en route to a 10-4 win over UTD in the series finale.

Down 8-0 in the 5th, the Comets finally got on the board thanks to a bases-loaded RBI single to left by Ambrosy, scoring, Gabi Langille, but UTD would leave the bases loaded and trail the Tornados, 8-1, heading to the 6th.

CTX got that run back in the top of the 6th before the Comets would plate two in the bottom of the frame. After three-straight two-out singles by Langille, Alexis Brown and Alexia Mullen, UTD cut the deficit back to seven runs on Tornado fielding error. However, the Comets would once again leave the bases loaded.

Trailing 10-3 in the bottom of the 7th, the Comets managed just one run in the final frame when Sarah Lewis led off the inning with a solo home run.
