Bella Granada scored twice, including the game-winner, as the Comet women's soccer team earned a 3-2 road win over East Texas Baptist Saturday night in American Southwest Conference play.
Granada, a forward out of Cedar Park, opening scoring with a goal in the 12th minute and capped the scoring with her team-leading third tally of the spring in the 77th to secure the Comets' fourth straight win to open the season. The Comets (now 4-0, 4-0 ASC) are the only remaining unbeaten team in the ASC's East Division with just two games left in the regular season.
The host Tigers countered Granada's first goal with just over 30 seconds left in the half to knot the game, 1-1, at the break. Comet senior
Keely Fillman gave UTD back the lead in the 49th minute with her first goal of the spring. However, ETBU answered with the equalizer in the 58th minute.
Granada's first collegiate game-winner came inthe 77th minute as she beat ETBU keeper Claire Montondon in the right upper corner, thanks to an assist from
Sofia Munoz. Munoz finished the game with two assists.
Granada, along with
Ashlyn Sims and
Sierra Foster each finished with tw shots and the Comets closed the victory with 12 shots as a team, seven on frame. Keeper
Morgan Sherman made a season-high nine saves.
The Comets return to action on Friday with a 5 p.m. ASC East road game at Belhaven in Jackson, Miss.
