Comets Roll Past Belhaven, 4-2, to Close Regular Season

JACKSON, MS (03.26.21) - Junior midfielder Sofia Munoz was involved in the Comets' first three goals of the night as the UT Dallas women's soccer team wrapped up the regular season with a 4-2 road win over Belhaven Friday evening in American Southwest Conference East Division play.

The Comets will enter next week's ASC Tournament with a perfect 5-0 record this spring and will open the event at 5 p.m. Thursday at home against an opponent yet to be determined. With a win Thursday, the ASC East champion Comets would then host the league's semifinals and title game, Apr. 8 and 10, at the UTD Soccer Field.

Down 1-0 early, the Comets got the equalizer from Munoz in the 10th minute, assisted by Peyton Guidry. Munoz then had the assist on the Comets' go-ahead goal in the 18th minute as she fed teammate Keely Fillman to help give UTD a 2-1 lead at halftime. Munoz' second goal of the contest and third tally of the spring came in the 59th minute, an unassisted goal that proved to be game winner. Sierra Foster completed the Comets' offensive output with an unassisted goal in the 69th minute

Belhaven (now 4-2-1) got a late goal by Ashley Langham in the 85th minute as she found the back of the net after a Blazer penalty kick that was saved back Comet keeper Megan Hannah.

Fillman led the Comets with four shots, one on frame, while Munoz took just three shots, all on goal. Starting keeper Morgan Sherman gave up one goal with two saves in 79 minutes of action. Hannah gave up one goal with two saves of her own in the final 11 minutes of the contest.
