BELTON, TX (03.27.21) - The UT Dallas softball team dropped two games Saturday afternoon at Mary Hardin-Baylor as the Comets closed a three-game American Southwest Conference road series with the Cru.
The Comets (now 1-16, 1-11 ASC) were edged out of Saturday's opener, 3-1, before falling to UMHB, 9-0, in five innings in the series finale. UTD will return to the field Thursday with a 5 p.m. doubleheader at No. 2-ranked East Texas Baptist to open up a three-game set with the Tigers.
GAME 1 - UMHB 3, UTD 1
The Comets struck first with a run in the top of the 1st, but UMHB plated three unanswered runs to claim a 3-1 victory to open Saturday's doubleheader.
Sarah Lewis opened the scoring with a two-out single up the middle, scoring lead-off hitter
Ashley Ambrosy to gave the Comets an early lead, however, the Cru plated two runs in the bottom of the 1st and then added a late run in the 6th.
Ambrosy went 1-for-3 from the lead-off spot, extending her hitting streak to 16 games to open the season while Lewis was also 1-for-3.
Mikayla Kanetzky tossed the complete game, giving up just two earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts.
GAME 2 - UMHB 9, UTD 0 (5 inn.)
The host Cru plated three runs in the bottom of the 1st and never looked back as they closed the three-game series with a 9-0, five-inning victory over the Comets.
The Comets managed just four hits off UMHB starter Bayleigh Grogan with
Megan Todd,
Charlie Burns and
Emily Ng each going 1-for-2 from the plate.
