Comets Claw Back Into Playoff Race With 100-59 Win at McMurry

ABILENE, TX (03.04.21) - With one game left in the regular season, the UT Dallas men's basketball team has moved back into fourth place in the American Southwest Conference's East Division after an impressive 100-59 road win over McMurry Thursday night.

The Comets (now 8-4, 6-4 ASC) can secure an 18th consecutive trip to the ASC Tournament this Saturday with a win at Hardin-Simmons in the regular-season finale for both program's. Tip-off is 6 p.m. in Abilene.

UTD shot a blistering 53.5 percent from the field and made 10-of-17 three-pointers as the Comets hit the century mark for the fourth time this season. Now averaging 85.8 points per game, the Comets are on pace to set a new single-season mark for points offensive output in a season.

Senior Michael Forster led the Comets in the lop-sided victory with 19 points, hitting 3-of-3 three-pointers, while freshman Kameron Pruitt added 16 points and nine rebounds. Kelden Pruitt led the Comets with 10 rebounds and Dimitrius Underwood dished out a game-high seven assists.

The Comets started hot and never cooled off as they picked up their third win in the last four outings. UTD was 17-for-33 (51.5%) from the floor as a team in the opening half en route to a 50-24 advantage at intermission. The Comets got stronger after the break, going 21-of-38 (55.3%) from the field with six second-half three-pointers to keep their postseason hopes alive. UTD out-rebounding the host War Hawks, 51-32, and forced 24 turnovers.

UTD is still alive to host an opening-round ASC Tournament game on Wednesday, Mar. 10, but would need not only a win over HSU Saturday, but also a loss by Ozarks (6-3 ASC) at McMurry that same day. The highest-remaining seed from the ASC's East Division after Wednesday's opening round would then host the league's semifinals and title game, Mar. 14-15.
