RICHARDSON, TX (04.02.21) - The UT Dallas men's tennis team moved closer to .500 on the season as the Comets downed NCAA Division II Western New Mexico, 6-3, Friday night.
The Comets (now 5-6) fell behind WNMU, 2-1, after doubles play, but rallied for five singles victories to pick up the team win.
No. 2 doubles squad
Jed De Luna and
Nick Boquet claimed an 8-5 win as the only Comet tandem to claim doubles victory.
Ritvik Ganesan opened singles play with a 6-3, 6-0, win at No. 3 singles to even the match before De Luna added his own straight-set victory (6-1, 6-1) at N o. 5 singles.
Noah Sam earned a 6-2, 6-1, win at No. 6 singles to give the Comets a 4-2 lead, setting up a deciding dual at No. 1 singles and a
Ashwin Vaithianathan victory, 6-3, 6-2, over WNMU's Jonathon Vega. The Comets also added a three-set win by
John Edwards at No. 2.
The Comets return to action next Saturday, Apr. 10, when they visit Belhaven in Jackson, Miss., for a 3 p.m. American Southwest Conference East Division match.
