ABILENE, TX (09.14.21) - The UT Dallas volleyball team improved to 2-0 in ASC play Tuesday night as the Comets rolled to a 3-0 road victory over McMurry.
The Comets (4-5 overall) hit .245 as a team while averaging nearly 20 digs per set in the quick sweep of the host WarHawks (2-5, 1-2 ASC).
Allison Owen sparked UTD with 15 kills in the short match, hitting .355 and adding five digs and a pair of blocks.
Catherine Croft added nine kills while
Gabi Sommerfield collected a team-high five blocks. Libero
Rachel Baxter corralled 20 digs.
In the opening set, the Comets had to hold off McMurry to earn a 25-23 victory. After pulling ahead early, UTD was tied by the WarHarks on multiple occasions in the set, the latest at 23-23 before the Comets closed the win a kill by
Jaryn Towery followed by a block by Owen.
The Comets had to claw back in the second set after McMurry took an early 12-8 lead. UTD responded with four straight points to knot the stanza and eventually take a 16-15 lead on a WarHawk error. The Comets used a late 7-0 run to pull away for the 25-17 victory.
UTD scored the first five points of the third set to be able to pull away for a 25-20 in the third set and complete the sweep. The Comets used another 5-0 run later in the set to help keep the WarHawks out of reach.
The Comets, who are receiving votes in the latest AVCA Top 25, return to action Friday night when they host No. 10-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor in an ASC match at the UTD Activity Center.
