RICHARDSON, TX (09.18.21) - The UT Dallas volleyball team got back in the win column Saturday afternoon with a brisk home sweep of Concordia Texas in ASC play.
The Comets (5-6, 3-1 ASC) hit .296 as a team and collected nine aces as they rolled over the visiting Tornados (1-8, 1-3 ASC), 25-9, 25-13, 25-22. UTD will open a three-game road stretch Tuesday with a 6 p.m. ASC match at Hardin-Simmons in Abilene.
Allison Owen had 12 kills while
Catherine Croft added 10 kills as the Comets set the tone early in Saturday's match. UTD committed just one error in the opening set and three errors in the second stanza as the Comets were hitting .400 as a squad entering the third. Four different Comets had two aces while libero
Rachel Baxter finished with a match-high 16 digs.Â
The Comets scored the first five points of the match and would roll out to an 11-1 lead over CTX in the first set. UTD did not lead by less than eight points for the remainder of the set, hitting an impressive .400.
UTD would then use a 10-2 run early in the second set to pull away for a 2-0 lead over the Tornados. Owen had six kills in the second set while Croft and
Abby Jones each contributed four kills as the Comets again hit .400 as a team.
The third set was more competitive with the two teams battling through six ties before the Comets would pull away late for the sweep. The last tie came at 16-16 before Comets regained momentum for good. UTD widened its lead to as many as four points before holding off the Tornados later in the set. The matched ended on a
Jaryn Towery kill, who finished the match third on the squad behind Owen and Croft with six kills.
