BROWNWOOD, TX (01.22.22) - For the second straight game, UT Dallas women's basketball team turned a halftime deficit into an ASC road win as the Comets rallied for a 68-56 victory over Howard Payne Saturday afternoon.
Down 28-21 at the break, the Comets (9-3, 8-1 ASC) outscored HPU, 47-28, in the second half as they maintained their hold on second place in the ASC standings with eight league games left in the regular season.
Paris Kiser led three Comets in double figures with a game-high 17 points while adding seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in UTD's third consecutive victory.
Jordan Maxwell and
Anna Jefferson-Polk each finished with 11 points.
Jordan Rudd led the Comets with eight rebounds.
The Comets used a 17-3 run in the second half, including a stretch of 12 straight points, to turn the tables on the host Yellow Jackets. Trailing 35-31 just past the midway point of the third period, UTD rolled off seven consecutive points to take a 38-35 advantage on a
Alex Bowman three-pointer with 3:10 left in the quarter. The Yellow Jackets regained a four-point lead late in the period before UTD scored the five points in the final 10 seconds in the stanza, getting a pair of free throws from
McKenzie Howard and a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Maxwell.
The Yellow Jackets (4-16, 2-11 ASC) got a three-pointer from Amanda Turpin on the possession of the fourth before UTD scored 12 straight to snag its first double-digit lead of the afternoon, 60-50, on a
Kaylee Boykin lay up with 4:55 left to play. The Comets would not lead by less than seven points for the rest of the contest.
The Comets continue their four-game road trip Thursday with a 5:30 p.m. ASC road game at Belhaven in Jackson, Miss.
